Yesterday, our secretary was told to try out the three scanners in the office so that a review can be written about them. Today, that is what she did, and here is what she can say:
First, none of these had holders when they were tested. The scan buttons had to be depressed on all of them to get them to scan (which may be...inconvenient...if one works at a liquor store, where it could be easier just to scan the item's barcode under the scanner in the holder.
The three scanners tested were the IDTECH IDBA-4244MRB, the Metrologic Voyager MS9540, and the Motorola Symbol P/N LS2208-SR20007R-UR. These were fairly all blind tests; none of these were researched for their capabilities before use. "Use," consisted of scanning a 50mL bottle each of Evan Williams Honey, Tanqueray, and Johnnie Walker Red Label at fairly close range.
We had a problem with the Metrologic Voyager -- It did not pick up the Evan Williams Honey, though we gave it two opportunities. Boo -- Hiss -- Fail. This was, therefore, the worst of the three.
We found the IDTECH scanner to be fun! It had a big ol' fat barcode laser scanner. The red laser engulfed the entire barcode for all three products. This was an even bigger win because this scanner started with the Evan Williams Honey the Metrologic Voyager failed to scan and picked it up right away. This was our favorite.
That leaves the Motorola Symbol. We had been informed that this scanner has quite a distance range, that is, it can scan from a ways away. Perhaps it is because our particular device has been used in the past...a bit...that it was not as spectacular as was expected. Yes, it did scan from a little bit away, but, it was much closer than arm's length. This model was efficient, and the scanner has stood the test of time. We did not scan the other two regarding distance because the Metrologic Voyager could not even scan all three items as it was and we did not think of doing so with the IDTECH because we did not know of the capabilities.
~Cheers!
